Reuse Recycle Restyle Embellish

September 2009

One of the best ways to reuse a beloved garment is with some simple embellishment.  I like to cruise through the internet, see what the latest styles are and copy the themes.  Here are some ideas to Restyle in Style this Fall.

Add some Fringe.  Fringe is in this fall, and it’s easy to add some fringe to a hem… or several layers to a dress or blouse.  And wouldn’t a pair of jeans look great hemmed in fringe?  Add some fashion trim, lace, ruffles or ribbon to a scarf for a quick easy update.  Sewing-Online has a nice selection of trims.  Add some braid for a military look.

Pattern is in, paisleys, florals and abstracts.  Why not add a patterned scarf, or add a patterned blouse to your wardrobe.

This season, one-shoulder dressing is in.  It would be easy to change that favorite dress or blouse to a one-shoulder look.  This would be a great use for your French curve and some interfacing.

Furry is Fun this fall.  Add a sliver of  boa  or faux fur to a garment.  Add a fur collar, or attach some cuffs.

The Power Belt is back.  Yay! Show off your waist, make some belts for yourself.

Color is celebrated this fall.  Especially Red.  Add some to an existing garment with a belt, some trim or appliqués.

Why not sift through your closet and find something to restyle.  It’s good for your creativity and its good for the earth.
