Sew For Breast Cancer Awareness Month
November 2009
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. With all the fun of Halloween, it almost escaped my attention. As an avid sewer, my first question when I am made aware of any particular “awareness month, week or day, is “what can I sew to help this cause?” I’ve googled and found some great results:
The Anti-Ouch Pouch would be a wonderfully supportive gift to a woman in the post-surgery stage of breast cancer. It’s an easy project designed by Deon Mass for the American Sewing Guild.
You can sew Pillows for Breast Cancer Patients. Sewing World magazine has several projects that can be made for charities or those recovering from breast cancer.
Here’s a lovely site for knitters, Knitting for Charity, with some nice ideas to raise funds for Cancer research. Simply Knitting has some projects for Cancer Research Charities as well.
If you don’t have a lot of time this month, don’t fret, you can shop to beat breast cancer at Cancer Research UK, where you can find many ways to support breast cancer research. Or shop at Breast Cancer Campaign.org. Buy pewter pink ribbon charms and add them to any project, or make jewelry for yourself and loved ones. Raising awareness.
If you just want to give, support John Killingworth in his New York Marathon.
Join me in our fight against breast cancer and put your crafty hands to work. Any links you know that I’ve left out?
